Cabbage Soup Recipe - Tasty, Healthy, Cheap

Posted by javanuddin on Monday, July 23, 2012

Cabbage soup recipe choices are tasty additions to any table. And cabbage is a super food packed with nutrition that's good for anybody, dieting or not. If you're looking for a way to stretch your food budget, look no further.

Tasty

Cabbage soup has a reputation as a somewhat smelly, stinky, bland sort of concoction. But it isn't necessarily any of those. The taste of soup largely depends on the ingredients including spices, so good soup is dependent on the materials you use.

Try this to get started.

Cabbage Soup Quick and Easy

1 large head of cabbage

1 large bunch celery

2 bunches green onions

1 large can whole tomatoes

2 cans of chicken broth (13 oz)

3 large bell peppers

salt and pepper to taste

Clean all the vegetables, slice, chop, and add in large pot. Add whole tomato, chicken broth and cook on low heat for 15 minutes or until tender.

Healthy

Cabbage is high in calcium, Vitamin C, Vitamin A, and much more. The raw juice is used for colon disorders and is quick acting. The cabbage soup diet is an old quick weight loss plan used to lose 10 pounds in a week. The soup is used as a filler and strict meal plans are provided for each day. Raw in salads, in juices or cooked in soups, cabbage is an important healthy food.

Cheap

There's a reason cabbage is a staple of peasant people in cool climates. Cabbage is easy to grow in cold climates, but not so easy in warm weather where pests attack. Because it's easy to grow and a high yielding crop, it's cheap. Peasant diets often are more nutritious than the processed diets of seemingly more affluent folks. So as you sit down to enjoy cabbage soup spiced just to suit your tastes, wonder what the rich folks are eating.

Fajita Recipe - Healthy Eating

Posted by javanuddin on Sunday, July 22, 2012

Fajita recipe is healthy eating and the fact that you can experiment and improvise with this form of cooking makes the fajita even more popular today. Fajita is typically a Tex-Mex cuisine that owes its origin to the state of Texas Mexican workers. The first stall selling fajitas came about in 1969 and since then there has been no looking back for this popular recipe.

Fajita specialists hold that there happens to be only one original fajita recipe, although today you will come across fajita recipe in many variations and combinations. The original recipe comprises a beef slice called skirt steak which used to be cooked with vegetables and served with condiments. The word "fajita" literally means a girdle or belt, but today it stands for grilled meat that is served with corn or flour tortilla and an assortment of vegetables and condiments.

The choices with which you can prepare fajitas are the reason why the fajita recipe is so popular. You could make your fajita recipe light, nutritious, and healthy by using your creativity and culinary instincts. By introducing your own ingredients to it, you could even make the fajita recipe more palatable and mouthwatering. You could start by getting a good wrap bought from reputed supermarkets instead of buying those being sold on the street by vendors.

You could also start by using extra virgin oil which can make a world of difference to an ordinary recipe. Using sunflower oil is not recommended because it is fattening and does not help better the taste. Next, you should experiment with meat types. Instead of the traditional beef, choose chicken, pork, or shrimp for a difference in taste. Spice up this dish with tasty sauces and condiments to make it more appetizing.

Eating healthy typically means eating food that is low on fat content, salt, and simple carbohydrates. In a fajita recipe you can conveniently take care of all these factors by experimenting with the varieties of meat, vegetables, and flour. The vegetables that we normally tend to leave out of our everyday meals, and which are extremely important for ensuring a balance healthy diet, can be included in your fajita recipe. Most of us stay away from these nutritious vegetables simply because they are not prepared in a tasty manner. But with fajitas, you can dress your vegetables in a different costume and make them delightfully tasty for your family.

You can use your imagination to prepare the fajita mix by substituting beef with chicken, pork, or shrimp, preparing the tortilla with soy or wheat flour and not refined flour, and grilling the meat with a drop of olive oil. That way you get fajitas which are low in fat, more fibrous, and highly nutritious.

So eat healthy by experimenting intelligently with fajita recipe and enjoy this very popular dish in an unconventional way. You can consume healthy food without having to compromise on the taste. And above all, you can make this food with almost anything you can get your hands on, instead of having to prepare dishes with exotic items that are frightfully expensive. So think out of the box and use your creativity to make the fajita recipe healthier and tastier!

How to Make a Healthy Fruit Salad - Free Raw Recipe

Posted by javanuddin on Thursday, March 8, 2012

If you're wondering how to make a healthy fruit salad and something that is quick and easy, this raw food recipe is so simple it'll only take minutes to prepare. You can make it just prior to serving or make in advance and refrigerate.

There are many fruit salad recipes but not all of them are healthy. This raw fruit salad recipe is healthy and contains only fruits. It's versatile. If you leave something out it won't make a difference. You can add other fruits to it or substitute other fruits. It's one of my favorite healthy raw food recipes. All the kids and adults love it and ooh and ahh over it.

If possible, it's best to serve it first before the meal and enjoy the fast digestive benefits. Fruits usually digest within 15 minutes and digest better when not combined with fats and proteins. This saves the body's energy for other digestive processes and other work. Also, more is likely to be eaten before the meal rather than after when everyone is full. Or just serve it with the meal and let everyone help themselves.

Here's how to make a healthy fruit salad recipe:

Choose the fruits you like. You can leave any of these out, except one orange for mixing and bananas, but you may reduce the amount of bananas. The ingredients are:

1 cup of seedless grapes, cut in half
1 orange peeled and sliced in thin slices
1 orange - reserve for top
1-2 oranges for mixing
1 sweet apple like a Gala or tart apple if you like, cubed. Actually, any type of apple you have on hand is good.
1 pear cored, peeled and cubed
5-6 ripe, not green, bananas, sliced
1 handful to 1 cup of blueberries, fresh or frozen
1/2 cup fresh or frozen mango chunks
1/2 cup dried fruit, any combination chopped - figs, dates, raisins and/or cranberries, optional
1-2 cups strawberries, sliced, reserve 5-6 whole strawberries for top
1-2 kiwifruit, sliced thin, reserve for top, optional

Slice the bananas into a big bowl. Add any of the other fruits you like. Slowly and carefully fold them in, being careful not to bruise the fruit. Squeeze one orange, slowly add to the fruit and gently mix in. You may need two oranges if you have a lot of fruit. Lay some thin kiwi and strawberry slices around the edges, alternating or use your creativity. Refrigerate and serve chilled.

That's it. It's really simple and so sweet and healthy. Nothing cooked. No gluten and no dairy either. That's how to make a healthy fruit salad - a great raw food recipe you'll love to serve often

Fruit Smoothie Recipe For a Healthy Breakfast

Posted by javanuddin on Friday, March 2, 2012

Losing and controlling your weight is an ongoing conversation with so many people everyday. Studies by leading nutritionists all have say, eat a well balanced diet that includes:

Protein
Fruits and Vegetables
Good carbohydrates
Low intake of fat

Eaten regularly, and in the right amounts, this diet will slow digestion which in turn increases metabolism. This healthy combination of foods promotes a diet rich with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants which all help control disease while promoting healthy skin and bones.

Fruits and vegetables also help cleanse our body through a process known as detoxification. Detoxification is the natural metabolic process the human body employs to clean the toxins out of the system which, in turn, promotes a overall health. The challenge for many is they do not have the detailed knowledge they believe is required to build menus that include all of these components for tasty meals.

By now everyone has heard the quote that "breakfast is the most important meal of the day". Still many people tend to skip breakfast because they are bored with the same old cereals, or don't want to take the time to scramble an egg. Or, almost as bad, they hit the drive through on the way to work and pick up a sausage, egg, and cheese cholesterol bomb only to find they are tired and lethargic and hungry half way to lunch.

On the other hand making a sensible breakfast part of the morning routine has been shown to help lose weight and promote general overall health because of the additional calcium, fruits, and fiber in the diet.

Fruit Smoothies are a sensible and increasingly popular breakfast drink that are easy to make, delicious, and are a great source of the nutrients we all need such as proteins, omega 3's and vitamins to both boost our immune system and promote general overall health.

Low-fat milk, soy milk and yogurts are all dairy products to mix well with a wide variety of fruits and vegetables to render meals that taste great, are good for you and are surprisingly low cost as well. The fruits and vegetables ingredients can be fresh or frozen and you can add healthy meal supplements like Mila to your recipe as well

Here is a fruit smoothie recipe you might like to try for breakfast or a snack that will help you jump control your weight and improve your overall health. This recipe includes an ounce of "Mila" chia seed for additional benefits.

Cranberry Delight Smoothie Recipe
1 cup of cold low-fat cranberry juice
1 medium orange (peeled, sections only
1 medium banana (cut in pieces)
1 cup of cold strawberries (fresh or frozen)
1/2 cup low-fat yogurt (you can choose: vanilla, strawberry, orange, banana or plain)
1 ounce Mila chia seed
Ice about 8-12 cubes

In your blender mix all the ingredients, starting with about 6 ice cubes. Sometimes if you are using frozen strawberries or the orange is very juicy, you won't need as many ice cubes, so you can add more if you like and blend to your favorite consistency.

A Tasty Oatmeal Pancake Recipe That is Healthy For You

Posted by javanuddin on Monday, February 27, 2012

Regular pancakes are usually made from white flour and are considered not having as many nutrients as those made with other grains. They are carbohydrate loaded so in some cases they can cause your blood sugar to rise rather high. Flour pancakes have no source of fiber but if you use other grains you will be able to provide your body with less carbohydrates and a great deal of fiber. You can use oatmeal as one of those alternative grains to make an Oatmeal Pancake Recipe.

The original oatmeal pancake comes from a country you would not expect it to come from. They come from Sweden and are usually served with fruit and jelly instead of syrup. Oatmeal pancakes can be served with regular syrup too and they taste very good, but you can also put applesauce on them if you do not want to use syrup.

In this recipe use regular oatmeal instead of the microwave type. Also avoid the Quick Oats in the following recipe. The only oatmeal you should use is slow cooked oatmeal and you can use organic oatmeal if you wish.

Easy oatmeal pancakes can be made by combining one and one half cup of rolled oats with two cups of milk in a large bowl. Let this sit for about 10 minutes and continue. In a separate bowl combine one half cup whole wheat flour, one half cup all purpose flour, one tablespoon baking powder, one tablespoon brown sugar, one fourth teaspoon salt, and one half teaspoon of ground cinnamon. Mix this well with a whisk but be careful not to whisk so hard it flies out of the bowl.

Beat two whole eggs and add them to the oatmeal that has been soaking. Also melt one fourth cup of butter and add that to the oats as well. The last thing you add is one teaspoon of vanilla. Now you take the flour mixture and add it little by little to the oat mixture mixing well by hand until it is all incorporated into a pancake batter.

Get a skillet or griddle hot and add a little bit of oil or butter. Take one fourth cup of the batter and place it on the hot skillet. You will see bubbles start to gather around the outside and once the whole pancake is encircled with the bubbles you can turn it to the other side. Once both sides are nicely browned and the inside is fluffy and light place the pancake on a serving plate. Butter can be placed on top along with some syrup, applesauce, or jam.

A homemade syrup can be made to go along with your oatmeal pancakes and that is an orange syrup. This is really easy to make and will taste divine with the pancakes. In a medium saucepan place one half cup of sugar, one fourth cup orange juice, one fourth cup butter, and one fourth cup light corn syrup. Whisk this all together and heat until it starts to boil. Remove from heat and let cool about 5 minutes and serve over the pancakes. This is not the healthiest topping in the world for an oatmeal pancake recipe but if you want to splurge just once give it a try.

To help make your breakfast exciting again, I will share with you one of my favorite healthy breakfast recipes. It is super tasty and it also contains fat burning foods that may encourage fat burn.

Breakfast wraps

I'm a big fan of tortilla wraps. You can add anything to them and they come out great -this breakfast wrap just proves that! You can spread a little reduced fat mayonnaise on them to make them more moist if you like - just no more than one teaspoon per tortilla.

Info:

Serves 2
Number of fat burning foods: 4 (tortillas, eggs, avo oil and the cheese)
Calories per serving:296
Fat per serving:11g

Ingredients:
2 whole-wheat tortillas
1 red pepper, chopped
1 green pepper, chopped
1 onion, chopped
2 whole eggs and 4 egg whites, lightly beaten
Pinch of salt
1 tablespoon avocado oil
1 cup low fat cheese

Instructions:

Place tortillas in oven at 180 degrees Celsius/350 degrees Fahrenheit to warm. Heat the avocado oil in a pan and lightly saute the peppers and onion until tender. Add egg mixture and salt. Healthy Snacks Can Be Tasty and Inexpensive - Bonus - Great Hummus Recipe

Posted by javanuddin on Wednesday, February 22, 2012

I used to be what I call a "Chip-aholic." Then one day Dad gave me a list of the Worst 10 foods you can eat. Chips pretty much topped the list and I ate them everyday. Yikes! It was time to discover better snacks. Luckily there are so many and more all the time as consumers are demanding better quality, healthy food.

These days you can buy Rice Crackers that actually taste good. I have found a brand that is about the cheapest and only has 2% fat, 2% saturates, 0 trans fat, and 3% sodium per 8 crackers. That's really good. The sesame are my favorite which is good too because sesame seeds are so high in calcium.

Colorful fruits and vegetables are so good and good for you. We all know this. You can always find some that you really like; cantaloupe, strawberries, grapes, sweet oranges, red peppers, carrots, corn on the cob, juicy apples, asparagus, and the list goes on. I try to get them washed with my filtered tap water when I bring them home, throw them in the crisper and they're ready to eat. It's easy to grab a carrot and nibble away on it while I'm reading or watching a movie.

Popcorn is easy too. I still use my hot air popper. I just feel unsure of what's in microwave popcorn and it only takes about 2 more minutes than a microwave. It never burns either which is a bonus. Just don't load it down with butter! I like to add nutritional yeast. That's so good as it's filled with B vitamins, helps relax me. Many tasty seasonings are available; Spike, spirula, powdered cheese, garlic powder, etc.

Nutritional yeast and ground flax are also good on whole wheat toast or good old rye crisp breads. Peanut butter topped with ground flax is also yummy on toast. One of my favorite healthy spreads is hummus! I love it on rice crackers, pita or toast or as a dip. Try this easy recipe for awesome hummus. I use organic ingredients as much as possible, so much better for the body and the planet! Stock up on sale items when possible.

Easy Tasty Hummus

You'll need:
1 15 oz/398 ml can of chickpeas *I soak/cook my own chickpeas, tastier and low-cost
2 tbls tahini or 2 heaping tbls of sesame seeds (much cheaper)
Few cloves garlic- I love garlic so add up to 4 big ones
½ tsp of dried chili peppers or roasted red peppers....taste preference
Juice of one lemon or 2 tbls bottled juice
½ tsp sea salt
2 tbls olive oil- extra virgin and cold pressed is best (large cans are the best deal)

Method:

I used to double or triple this recipe and freeze the extra but it took so long to blend in all those chickpeas and was so hard on the blender I found that it's actually faster to make a smaller amount. If you have a newer, good quality blender go for the bigger batch!

To start I put 1 tbls filtered tap water into the blender with the sesame seeds to make my tahini.
Add garlic and dried chili peppers/roasted red pepper and salt.
Gradually add chickpeas alternately with the lemon juice and olive oil.
Add water if you want a creamier texture.
