Fruits The Tastiest Way to Health!

Posted by javanuddin on Thursday, July 19, 2012

Fruits are perhaps the earliest food that was discovered by human beings. While Adam savored the apple that was offered to him by Eve and marked the beginning of 'fruitivorous' human origin, till date, most people love to have fruits. Fruits are not just great at tantalizing our taste buds but also are great healers of health. Most fruits are rich in vitamins, minerals and different enzymes that contribute to our health. In addition, fruits are easily digestible and have a cleansing effect on our digestive system. Some fruits fight fatal diseases like cancer by virtue of certain essential enzymes present in them.

While we all know that fruits are good for health, do we really know how healthy fruits actually are? Here's a detailed nutritional overview of some of the most delicious fruits.

Watermelon: Watermelon's health benefits have been long acclaimed by nutritionists to the extent that American Heart Association has given watermelons the "heart healthy" seal of approval. Recent research shows that watermelons are one of the highest Lycopene content fruit. Lycopene is a Carotenoid that neutralizes singlet oxygen (highly reactive oxygen that damages body cell) in our body and reduces the risk of prostrate cancer. In addition, watermelon is also rich in Vitamin A, Vitamin B6, Vitamin C and Potassium.

Cantaloupe: Cantaloupe is probably the most popular form of melons. While we all love the taste of this yellow/orange-bodied fruit for its great taste and musky odor, it has also established itself, as a great source of Vitamin C. Cantaloupe is also a rich source of Potassium, Vitamin B6, Dietary Fibers and Niacin (Vitamin B3). All these vitamins and enzymes help us to fight heart diseases, high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer and aging.

Honeydew: This member of the melon family is most likely the closest competitor to Watermelon and Cantaloupe in terms of popularity. Neither does it lag far behind when compared on the basis of its nutritional properties. Honeydew is an excellent source of Vitamin C. It also contains small amount of Potassium and is a good source of Foliate. Foliate is an essential component that facilitates cell division. This fat free, cholesterol free fruit is an excellent option for both weight control and general health.

Mango: Mango, correctly called the king of fruits has the highest number of consumption on a daily basis compared to any other fruits in the world. Mangoes are not only delicious but are rich in Vitamin A, B, C and minerals like Potassium, Calcium and Iron. This high in fiber, low in cholesterol, low fat fruit also contains digestive enzymes and has strong antioxidant, anticancer and anti-cardiovascular properties. Besides being one of the tastiest fruit, its high iron content also contributes to the blood building capability and is often prescribed to anemic patients and pregnant women.

Most fruits are high in nutrition value and are excellent source of various minerals, vitamins and enzymes. Since discussing the nutritional facts of all fruits is beyond the scope of this small article, I would like to end this article with the note of assurance that fruits are definitely the best and tastiest way to health.

Fruit Facts + Eating Fruits the Healthy Way

Posted by javanuddin on Saturday, March 10, 2012

Eating fruits everyday can keep infections away. Fruits are regulatory foods containing carotene, vitamin C and vitamin C complex. They protect the eyesight, keep skin smooth and clean and increase body resistance against infection

Fruit and vegetable juices are the juiciest way of taking vitamin C, so don't store them for long periods once the container is opened.

Aside from the nutritional value of papaya, it has been found out that it has many varied medicinal uses as its young leaves are effective in deworming. They are also good disinfectants for dog bites. Latex from the fruit peeling proves to be effective in getting rid of freckles and other skin problems

A medium papaya contains 200% of your Vitamin C requirement

As much as possible, eat raw fruits and vegetables. Raw, unpeeld fruits and vegetables provide greater benefits than when peeled and/or cooked.

Tomatoes contain both Vitamin C and beta carotene which are powerful antioxidants.

Fruits such as oranges, grapefruit, kiwi, melons and strawberries are excellent sources of Vitamin C.

Keep fresh fruits from turning brown such as apples, bananas, or pears with acidic fruits like oranges, pineapple, or lemon juice.

Fresh fruits and vegetables are loaded with antioxidants, phytochemicals and vitamins which neutralize "free radicals". Free radicals are unstable compounds created from the metabolism of fats and/or environmental factors and may be responsible for altering the cell's metabolism resulting in abnormal cellular growth food in cancer. Eating at least five servings of fruits and vegetables a day can avoid such chronic diseases.

Tips for Healthy eating

Make most of your choices whole or cut-up fruit rather than juice, for the benefits dietary fiber provides.

Select fruits with more potassium often, such as bananas, prunes and prune juice, dried peaches and apricots, cantaloupe, honeydew melon, and orange juice.

When choosing canned fruits, select fruit canned in 100% fruit juice or water rather then syrup.

Fruits differ in nutrient content so vary your fruit choices

Try applesauce as a fat-free substitute for some of the oil when baking cakes.

Try meat dishes that incorporate fruit, such as chicken with apricots or mango chutney.

Frozen juice bars (100% juice) make healthy alternatives to high-fat snacks.

Cut-up fruit makes a great snack as well as dried fruits

Wash fruits before preparing or eating them. Under clean, running water, rub fruits briskly with your hands to remove dirt and surface microorganisms. Dry after washing

Choose fruit options, such as sliced apples, mixed fruit cup, or 100% fruit juice that are available in some fast food restaurants

Try raisins or other dried fruits instead of candy.

They are among the cleanest and healthiest of foods on the planet, especially if grown organically, and because there are no additives or trans-fat involved, the list of common fruits available to the public should be considered highly important in daily intake.

While China leads apple production (producing 41% of the planet's apples), other countries such as the United States, France, Turkey, Italy, Poland, Argentina, Germany, Russian Federation, Chile and Japan also are top producers. Some warmer countries such as Mexico and Iraq also contribute to the world's apple supply by growing them in the higher altitude regions of their countries.

Folks in the United States use apples for many different items. Half of the apples produced are eaten as fresh fruit. One-fifth of the supply is used in wine, jelly, juice, butter, cider and vinegar. 17% of the apples produced in the US are canned for pie filling or as applesauce and the remainder of the supply is sold to other countries.

Bananas: Exotic Yellow Paradise

On the list of common fruits, the banana is the world's 4th largest fruit crop. Because the banana plant needs 15 months of warm weather (frost-free) to produce the fruit, this plant grows only in tropical regions such as Brazil, Uganda, Philippines, India and Latin American countries.

Some of the common varieties include:
-Valery
-Dwarf Cavendish
-Williams Hybrid
-Red Jamaica

Not only is the fruit of the banana plant used as fresh fruit, eaten in cereal, salads and cocktails, but also the plant itself is used to make mats, build roofs, bags and baskets because it is a durable fiber.

They are important and rich sources of carbohydrates and also contain potassium, vitamins C and A and phosphorous.

Cherries: Gems of Ruby Red

Cherries grow small and soft and have a pit, or stone. On the list of common fruits, the cherry is one of the most popular in the entire world as its unique and vibrant flavor lends itself to many different products. Native to Europe, cherries do come in varieties other than red, but also yellow and black.

Some of the products cherries can be made into include:
-Butters
-Jellies
-Dressings
-Salsa
-Coffee/Tea
-Pancakes and Pancake Toppings
-Coupled with Chocolate
-Juice

Pears: Sweet, Tart and Mellow

Pears lend themselves to baking and fresh eating easily because of their tender skin and even more tender flesh. They have a mild flavor and scent and are used in many classic, upscale dessert recipes.

Originating in Europe and Asia, pears were first cultivated as far back as the ancient Romans. There are over 850 different varieties of pears and contain important nutrients such as riboflavin and potassium.

The list of common fruits does not end there. Nature supplies us with ample opportunity to provide our bodies with the healthy, pure vitamins and minerals only fruits can contribute.

Posted by javanuddin on Tuesday, March 6, 2012

What is the best way to make your diet healthier but keep it flavorful? Incorporate fruits in your everyday meals. This is the reason behind five-a-day rule. In this article, I will provide a delicious way to add a fruit in your everyday meals. Furthermore, let this information reveal why avocado is one of the healthiest choices for you.

To meet your daily requirement of nutrients, phytonutrients, and antioxidants, the five-a-day rule states that you need to eat 5 to 9 servings of vegetables and fruits. And because not everybody eats vegetables, fruits are the best way to meet these requirements.

One of the favorites among health experts is the nature's butter or avocado. Although they contain 30 percent fat, this is monounsaturated fat or the good fat. This type of fat can help reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer. This alone is a good motivation to include it in your everyday meals.

Per half a fruit, avocados contain only 138 calories. This is quite surprising for a fatty fruit. It also contains beta-carotene, a nutrient that can be converted to vitamin A, protein, vitamins C and E, and vitamin B-complex particularly thiamine and riboflavin.

To enjoy avocados, you can have the well-known dish guacamole. With one ripe avocado, mash it with 5 teaspoon salsa, 1 teaspoon lemon juice, 1 teaspoon minced garlic, and a dash of salt. Mash it until the mixture is smooth. Add diced ripe tomatoes. This is great as an ingredient in taco or a dip for tortilla chips.

Avocado may be seasonal, so enjoy it when it is abundant during its peak season. You can also include other fruits in your everyday meals like berries like raspberries and blueberries, apples, mangoes, and melons.
